Another charity shop £1 find, this is a variation on the faux-panoramic point and shoot theme. The lens appears to have two elements, and there is a built in flash. I've loaded it with Agfa Vista ISO 200 film from Poundland, any other film would have cost more than the camera!

With only one shutter speed and aperture, unless the light is very good, the negative will be under-exposed. With cross-processing, this exagerates the colour shifts, although technically this one is a bit of a failure, I quite like the effect.

Although this is a simple box camera, it has a tripod bush and a cable release socket, so I was easy to take this 45 second exposure, though it wasn't easy to keep still!

It's summer again, and the Peace Gardens in Sheffield become and inland urban beach, complete with fairground attractions. The cross-processed slide film gives a retro feel to this timeless scene.

Week 190 - Ross Ensign Ful-Vue Super

The Ful-Vue is a basic metal box camera with a faux-TLR style waist level viewfinder. There is a focusing scale and an fixed speed plus "B" shutter, but otherwise there are no adjustments. The camera uses 620 film, which is the same as 120 but on a slimmer spool. 620 film was discontinued many years ago, so in oreder to use it, I re-spooled some Fuji Velvia 120 film onto an old 620 spool.

These balloons were orange, but like everything with this film, have come out in a shade of mauve.

The LC-W has two focus zones, 0.9m to infinity and 0.4-0.9m, I set it to the closer focus for this mirror portrait.

The Lomochrome Purple certainly lives up to its name, but it's more of a colour cast than a substitution of colours. The vertical half-frame format lends itself to in camera panoramas, this one is an Elizabethan garden feature.

Week 189 - Lomo LC-W

The LC-W (wide) has a 17mm lens, and can take half frame, square or full frame images depending on which of three film plane masks is installed. Made in China for the Lomography people, this camera is still in production, it's not cheap, but I got mine for half price on Ebay. I've used it several times since acquiring it in February, but have nver used the half-frame mask until this week. I'm taking the opportunity to try a roll of the new novelty "Lomochrome Purple" which is a C41 colour negative film in which the order of the layers of colour sensitive chemical has been altered to try to give somethin of an infra red feel to the images.

This is one of my favourite trees, and a regular subject in this project. I think I might have held a red filter in front of the lens for this one, but I can't remember, the blue sky is not particularly dark, so maybe I didn't...

For my self-portrait, I had to come indoors, but this was possible as the camera has a "B" setting. There is no tripod bush, so I had to balance it on the top of the tripod, meaning that controlling the shutter would be impossible without moving the camera, so I held a piece of black card in front of the lens while I opened the shutter and struck my pose, before quickly moving the card out of the way without touching the camera, the exposure was around one minute, so there is no trace of the black card or my hand moving it.

This very basic box camera needs good daylight, and fortunately we had good weather at the weekend when I saw this Punch & Judy show in a local park. The Punch & Judy tradition is even older than this camera.

Week 188 - IDAM Roc

This little diecast camera takes 127 film. It was made in France in around 1951, and had the unusual feature of incorporating a visual extinction exposure meter, somewhat pointless as there are absolutely no exposure controls on the camera!
It takes 12 square photos, which are slightly smaller than the standard 4x4cm 127 squarea.
I've loaded it with one of my remaining Efke 100 rolls.

These striking shadows were not really spoilt by the inability fo frame accurately, the tiny, cloudy waist level finder really is not easy to use!

The redscale film adds some atmosphere to this one, but the difficulty with accurate framing, together with what seems like quite a distant point of focus, rather spoils the result.

I suspected that the focal distance for this simple box camera would be further away than I am in this photo. Taken using a tripod, 30 second exposure.
