Week 31 - Minolta 24 Rapid
This was my first "proper" camera. It was passed on to me by my aunt when I was about 14. The "Rapid" system uses 35mm film in spool-less cassettes which are long since obsolete. The only way to use these cameras now (unless you can find an old time-expired film) is to load an empty cassette yourself. With no spindle or spool, the system relies on pushing the film from one cassette to the other, so only relatively short lengths of fim could be used, early Rapid cameras only took 12 or so photos and 18 was fairly standard for later models. The format is square, the negatives being 24mm x 24mm.
This camera had a fully automatic mode, but the meter on this one no longer works, so I will be manually setting the apertures and shutter speeds. I've loaded an old cassette with Rollei Retro 100 black and white film, and am looking forward to using it again after a gap of 35 years!

Week 30 - Zeiss Ikonta 530/16
The Ikonta 530/16 model was made between 1937 and 1939. It takes 12 square exposures on a 120 roll film. This is one of the more basic versions with a Novar lens and a limited range of shutter speeds. I have loaded it with a roll of Shanghai GP3 black and white film.

photo from week 27 - Viewmaster Stereo Camera
I started this camera off in week 27, but I only took a few photos, before taking it away on holiday to finish off. This is 3 stereo pairs taken on the upper floor of "Basket" a sculptural folly at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

this is one of only three slides from the Retina week - you win some, you lose some :-)

photo from week 22 - Kiev 4
This is one of the photos from the roll of Kodachrome 64 that I started off in week 19 in a Kodak Retina 1a. The slides only took about 2 weeks to come back from the only remaining Kodachrome lab in Kansas.
This has been cropped to make a square image.

Week 29 - Canon Demi-C
The Canon Demi-C is a half frame 35mm camera, it takes 72 exposures on a 36 exposure roll. The camera came with two lenses, a 50mm and 25mm, which were said to be of a high quality. I have used this camera several times, and this time have loaded it with a homebrew "redscale" film, so the film is exposed through the orange coloured backing. I took the camera to Valencia and shot about half the film there, and will finish it off in week 29.
photo from week 28 - Goerz Tenax VP 127 camera
This was taken in the lift up to our appartment on "Summer 127 Day". It is very underexposed and has been partially rescued in Photoshop. Note the copious Newton's Rings!

Taken from the 19th floor of an appartment block overlooking the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia.

The camera had a thorough test for light leaks in the fierce Spanish sunshine, it seems to have passed the test. Framing is difficult with the tiny waist level mirror finder, this one nearly lost the feet of the dinosaur!

Week 28 - Goerz 127 Vest Pocket Tenax
This compact little folding camera dates from the 1930s and takes eight exposures on a roll of 127 film. I will be taking it on holiday with me, and intend to use it on 12th July (Summer 127 day).
photo from week 26 - Spinner 360
This one was taken with the camera held in the vertical plane. You can see my shadow at each end, careful inspection shows that on the left, the ring has just left my grasp, and on the right it has reached the handle of the camera.

For this one, I held the camera on my head, so the only part of me that appears is my finger!
photo from week 26 - Spinner 360
I've put two films through this novelty camera so far. This was taken with the camera tilted forwards, looking down onto a docked boat, the ceiling of the covered dock can be seen on the left and right sides, together with two shots of my finger releasing the cord!

Week 27 - Viewmaster Stereo Camera
The Viewmaster stereo camera uses a diagonal film path to take 75 stereo pairs on a 36 exposure 35mm film. I've already put a couple of films through this camera, and I'm as interested in the possibilities of making in camera collage images as I am in making stereo pairs.
I plan to take a few picures this week, then take the camera with me on holiday next week, along with week 28's camera.
